Porsche 356B (T5) Super90 Coupé
In the fall of 1959 Porsche introduced their fully updated 356, known as the 356B.
The newest member of the family received a modernized bodyshell with raised bumpers, a flatter hood and repositioned headlights. At the same time, the interior was revised to make the car perfect for long distance driving at high speeds.
New to the model was the Type 616/7 Super90 engine which was an indirect replacement for the Carrera de Luxe models. It offered the highest output yet available, paired to a four-speed synchromesh 741 transmission.
The engine was fully revised with a new intake manifold, larger carburetors and the Carrera air filters. Other detail changes included 9.0:1 pistons, stronger valve springs, a different crankshaft,…
The Super90 was created to offer improved performance, handling, and comfort.
This particular 356B Super90 Coupé was delivered on 19th September 1960 and finished in Silver Metallic over a Red interior. It was equipped with the desirable type 616/7 engine, producing no less than 90hp. A Blaupunkt type “Frankfurt” radio -which is still mounted in the car-, speakers & antenna, seat belts,… complete the option list.
As standard, the Super90 was already well equipped with -among other things- chrome wheel covers, Koni shock absorbers, a rear axle compensation spring,...
The first American owner, Frederic L Smith, must have been very proud when he took delivery in person of his new car in Zuffenhausen!
In 1990 the car found its way back to Europa when it was bought by its first Italian owner.
10 years later the car underwent a restoration by classic Porsche specialist ‘Retromobile Milano’. Sir Carlo D. Bernardi enjoyed the excellent power to weight ratio from this little sportscar until 2017 when it was sold to the last (Belgian) owner.
Between 2020 -2023 the car underwent a last restoration to authenticity by ‘Restolab’ in The Netherlands. Excellent shutlines on doors, bonnet and bootlid. Magnificent paint finish in original ‘Reutter 608’ Silver Metallic combined with a spotless red leatherette interior.
Please have a close look at the detailed photos… Can it be more stylish and better than this?
Still being matching numbers on engine, gearbox, bonnet lid, decklid, radio, fuel tank and rims, this Super90 is the one to have. Such an honest and unspoiled car!
On the road, this Porsche is an absolute joy to drive ! Perfect roadholding, plenty of power, precise steering, easy shifting, effective drum brakes, no rattles at all!
The traditional Porsche values of quality, reliability and mechanical robustness.
The car will be delivered included:
