Cadillac Eldorado Convertible 1953 orig. 36000 miles
An elegant and highly desirable example from Cadillac's celebrated Series 62 line-up, this five (six)-seat Convertible Coupe represents the marque at its most refined. Built for effortless long-distance touring at “high” cruising speeds while offering exceptional comfort for both driver and passengers. Powered by Cadillac's advanced overhead-valve V8, the model marked a significant step forward in post-war engineering, combining smooth performance, reliability and understated prestige with the unmistakable presence of American design at its finest. This car is 73 years old and can still take you comfortably and relaxt to the South of France.
Delivered new in New Jersey, USA, in 1955, the car remained in regular use until 1963 before being carefully laid up and preserved for several decades (more than 50 years). Following its rediscovery in 2008, it benefitted from a sympathetic recommissioning, including refinishing of the paintwork, renewal of the leather soft-top and restoration of the chromed trim. Importantly, the magnificent red leather interior was renewed, but preserving the character, patina and craftsmanship that define a truly authentic motor car.
Today the Cadillac displays just 36,000 original miles, a figure entirely consistent with its remarkably preserved presentation. Throughout its new life the car has been meticulously maintained and carefully stewarded, ensuring excellent mechanical health while safeguarding its originality, a balance rarely encountered. The paintwork presents beautifully, the leather soft-top is in perfect condition, and the brightwork and detailing remain crisp and elegant, reflecting attentive ownership rather than excessive restoration.
On the road, the car delivers the effortless refinement for which Cadillac became internationally admired: smooth, confident performance paired with remarkable ride comfort and an atmosphere more reminiscent of a private lounge than a conventional automobile. Highly original, aesthetically striking and mechanically composed, this Series 62 Convertible Coupe offers collectors a rare opportunity to acquire a motor car defined not only by presence and provenance, but by authenticity and enduring quality.
